Description:
Our client, a non for profit health organisation, is seeking a strong policy officer to research, develop, write and promote their policy. The successful applicant would be working closely with the Media and Policy Manager as the role is situated within the Communications department.
The key purpose of the role is to forge strong relations with key stakeholders and to provide internal clarity on key policy issues.
TYPICAL TASKS
1. Collate and update existing material and develop new policy positions. Create and maintain search-able policy database.
2. Prepare briefings on legislative proposals and parliamentary debates
3. Analyse documents from government, health organisations and the EU to identify issues that may impact on the organisations business and/or members.
4. Assist the press officer to provide informed responses to media enquiries
5. Share policy with senior staff and managers through briefings and presentations
7. Oversee the new policy area on the organisations website
8. Working with the Policy and Media Manager, build and maintain working relationships with relevant civil servants and policy officers in other health/legal organisations.
9. Contribute to external relations strategy
The ideal candidate will:
1. Possess strong research skills and an analytical approach
2. Ability to work collaboratively with the organisations in house medical and legal teams
3. Good interpersonal and organisational skills and the drive and enthusiasm to maximise opportunities to promote the organisations policy
4. Talent for reading and understanding complex documents
5. An ability to draft concise, accurate and convincing documents for a range of audiences
6. Have gained at least one years experience in a policy position or similar role.
