Description: Production Editor (6 Month Fixed term Contract) London Dr Foster Intelligence is the leading independent provider of research, analysis and communication products to health and social care organisations. They are looking to recruit a Production Editor. Reporting to the Creative Director, you will manage production of targeted health communications, including magazines and campaign materials, from edited copy through to repro and printers, ensuring they meet clients' deadlines for printed materials. You'll be responsible for accurate and consistent sub-editing and proofreading of all products, including managing freelancers. You will also ensure systems for workflow and for internal and external sign-off are transparent and are adhered to. Key tasks and responsibilities: a) Plan, co-ordinate and manage production of media products, magazines and campaign materials, from getting copy from editors, through layout, proof, internal and external sign-off, including dealing with repro and printers. b) Devise and implement internal deadlines that ensure they meet clients' schedules for printed materials. Communicate clearly and constantly with other editors and staff to ensure they're aware of deadlines and of changes. c) Responsible for sub-editing of all content, including proofreading and amends, ensuring accuracy, consistency and the appropriate style for the product. Includes booking and managing freelance subs and rigorously checking all their work. d) Ensure systems for workflow and for internal and external sign-off are transparent and are rigorously adhered to. e) Supply files to repro houses and printers, working closely with the art editor and designers. Liaise with repro and printers to resolve queries and ensure delivery of product to deadline. f) Responsible, along with art editor and editors, for passing cromalins and printers' proofs. The successful candidate: a) Minimum of two years' editorial production experience on magazines or newspapers. Experience on business magazines could be sufficient but experience in book publishing and websites is NOT appropriate. b) This must include experience in an extremely busy environment with weekly and preferably daily deadlines. c) Must include experience juggling several projects and deadlines at once and the ability to manage them all at the same time. d) Ideally five years' subbing experience on a variety of magazines and materials, for a variety of audiences. f) In-depth knowledge (for subbing) of Quark and InDesign. g) In-depth knowledge of dealing with repro houses and printers and resolving the issues that arise.
