Description:
Lab System Specialist Blood and Tissue TestingLocation Birmingham, Bristol, Colindale or LeedsSalary £22,886 - £31,004Hours per Week 37.5 hours per week / Permanent Maternity CoverThe National Blood Service is an integral and vital part of the NHS. Our two million volunteer donors contribute 1.6 million units of blood every year which helps save lives every day. We supply blood and blood products to each of the 385 hospitals in England from 14 Blood Centres. The National Blood Service employs over 6,000 people across a diverse range of occupational groups, all of whom work towards the achievement of our core purpose saving and improving patients' lives. Our IT systems play a key role in supporting our work. With your, proven laboratory experience, keen interest in IT and background in Blood Transfusion or Tissue Typing, you could be just who we need to help help manage the large scale implementation of our new system known as Hematos.Hematos is an extensive donor management, lab management, stock control and issuing system. Among many other uses, it supports the testing of bone marrow and stem cells, and is employed by hospitals and antenatal services. And it’s within this exceptionally important area that you’ll play a key supporting role. Reporting to our System Manager, you’ll not only help to ensure the smooth running of Hematos, but also assist in developing the software and implementing any changes that might be needed. Of course, this can only be achieved by communicating with the broad range of people who’ll use the system - understanding their needs, and explaining the system in concise, clear terms. To succeed, you’ll need an understanding of core DDR scientific processes. And while it’s likely your experience is in a specific area, it’s essential that you’ve a holistic view of DDR in particular. It’s also important that you’re willing to develop your knowledge of a variety of functions. After all, you’ll be liaising with and building strong working relationships with colleagues across the service. We’ll expect you to hold a degree in Biological science and a BSHI diploma. An MSc and some evidence of Continuing Professional Development would be an advantage. However, most importantly, you’ll need the enthusiasm and confidence to get a firm grip on the many processes that this groundbreaking system supports. You’ll have the choice of being based within Birmingham, Bristol, Leeds or Colindale in North London although you should be prepared to travel to other sites when it’s necessary. What’s certain, wherever you’re based, you’ll find a dynamic and friendly working environment where teamwork is highly valued. Personal development is also considered a priority and is supported through extensive training and development opportunities open to all employees.
