Description: TEACHER OF CHEMISTRY – ESSEX LEA – PERMANENT CONTRACT **Mixed 11-18 school **Permanent contract **Essex LEA **NQT’s Welcome or Experienced Teachers **28 minutes – Straight Through Train From Stratford/Liverpool Street A very popular and oversubscribed 11-18 mixed comprehensive school based in Essex are looking to recruit either a Head of Chemistry or Chemistry Teacher. This position is a permanent role due to start September 2008. This is a highly successful school that regularly achieves over 70% A-C grades and enjoys excellent liaisons with parents and the local community. The school has nearly 1500 pupils and 245 Sixth Formers. They were awarded specialist status for Performing Arts. The school has recently had a new Technology and English block built, a new sports hall and refurbishment to the existing common room and classrooms. The Science department consists of 13 members of staff. It is an experienced team whose specialism encompass the three main areas of science - Physics, Chemistry and Biology. All Key Stage 4 students take Double Science at GCSE which means that all students study two GCSEs in Science. They follow the Salters Science Course which is taught in a series of modules based on the Biological, Physical and Chemical aspects of Science as determined by the National Curriculum. It has been a particularly successful course, with 65% of students gaining grades A* - C and a record number of A* grades The Sciences have become a steadily more popular option with A Level College students. Numbers have increased to such an extent that the school offer two AS Level groups in Biology, and one each in both Physics and Chemistry, and an equal number at A2 Level. The Department is based in a suite of 9 laboratories, 1 ICT room, 1 Science and Technology room and 1 classroom. All 9 laboratories have been completely refurbished to a very high standard. The school is very proud of these new labs as they offer an excellent teaching environment for our students and some of the best facilities in Essex.
