The House of Commons Library seeks a Statistician/Economist to conduct statistical research for Members of Parliament. The starting salary is dependent on skills and experience.Statistician / economist £23,606- £31,837 per annum Senior Statistician / economist £40,723-£55,539 per annumThe House of Commons Library provides information and research for MPs. This vacancy is for a researcher working in our Social & General Statistics Section to conduct politically impartial research across a range of topics.The work involves answering enquiries from individual MPs and preparing briefings available to all Members. These help prepare Members for debates and other Parliamentary activities and keep them abreast of policy developments and current affairs.Candidates need a first or upper second class honours degree including statistics and economics; or an equivalent postgraduate qualification. Those graduating in summer 2007 will be considered. Essential:strong numeracy an ability to explain data in a policy context excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to explain technical matters to non-specialists the ability to work fast and meet competing deadlines strict political impartiality.
